The older I get the more I realize that having a simple morning routine is something that I’m really grateful for. Every morning I do three things to help set the tone for my day, no matter how simple, short or long my day ahead may be.
The first thing that I do every morning, is make my bed. I’ve made my bed every single day since I was a freshman in high school… it could even go back so far to my elementary/middle school days. All I know is, I can count on one hand the number of times I haven’t made my bed. And I remember those days specifically not going so well… so I truly believe that it was because I didn’t start the day by making my bed. So even at a very young age, I could understand that in order for me to have a good day, I would need to make my bed first thing in the morning & everything after that would go according to plan…. now of course no day is perfect, but having my bed made always makes it seem like very little can go wrong.
After I make the bed, I handle my business in the bathroom… brush my teeth, wash my face, all that good stuff. And then I head straight to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would wake up every morning and love to enjoy a hot cup of coffee, I would have laughed in your face! When I was younger, the smell of coffee made me sick to my stomach, so there was no way I was going to drink it! HA…. the joke was on me! The simple luxury of me being able to have a cup of coffee is something that I look forward to everyday, and something that I will forever be grateful for.
Once I’m done making all of my cute little coffee videos & taking photos for IG…. I have the opportunity to just be. I sit on my couch or at the kitchen table in silence, no music, no tv… just being present in the moment while sipping my coffee. In this moment I’m simply gathering my thoughts, and thanking God for simply blessing me much more than I deserve. Taking just a few minutes for myself because I deserve it!
I guess this would be considered as a morning routine. My personal, short, sweet & simple morning routine. Do you have a routine that you follow to set the tone for your day?
